At first he couldn't her story till he found himself and his family attacked by a hollow (a demon), and then the Shinigami, Rukia Kuchiki, transformed him into a Shinigami so he can protect his family.....

Important terms

Reiatsu :      The spiritual power.

Shinigami:   A being that used to be a normal spirit, but trained                         hard and obtained his power.

Zanpakuto:  (Soul cutter) the weapon that use Shinigami to                                  purify hollows.

Seireitei:      The place where Shinigami lives.

Rukongai:    The place where normal spirit lives.

Soul Society: The world where Shinigami and normal spirits                                live.

Quincy:        A being that is "a special human".

Hollow:        A spirit that degenerated because he wasn't guided                          by a Shinigami.

Plus:          A normal spirit.
